REPORTS emanating from the Namibian Football Association (NFA) indicate that Brave Gladiators coach Jacqueline Shipanga’s contract will not be renewed as she is set to take up a coaching instructor role within FIFA.
It is still not clear if Shipanga will be part of the Brave Gladiators set up in her capacity as coach when the African Women’s Championship roars to life on October 11.
On the other hand, conflicting reports have it that the experienced coach has been working for NFA without a contract and could be free to leave any minute she deems necessary.
Already many are questioning how such a mishap could happen days before the African Women’s Championship kicks off. Losing Shipanga is likely to disrupt the Brave Gladiators’ preparation which in turn could spell a disastrous tournament for the host country.
Shipanga was earlier this week rumoured to be in Ethiopia where she had been conducting a FIFA coaching clinic but she denied to shed more light on what her Ethiopian trip was about. Confidente Sport has since been informed that the Ethiopian national women’s team was after her signature.
Reached for comment, a number of NFA officials could not be drawn into dialogue on the matter as they said they were in meetings and later on their phones went unanswered.
NFA women’s desk’s Jacky Gertze said she was aware that Shipanga was in Ethiopia on official FIFA business.
“Jacky is in Ethiopia as a FIFA instructor that is all I know. I do not know where the rumour of her leaving is coming from and I cannot confirm its authenticity,” she said.
Shipanga has been with the national women set-up for more than seven years and if the reports are anything to go by she will be heavily missed.
Her romance with the national set-up dates back to the time when she was coach of the Under 17 and Under 20 teams.
Apart from being a coach, she is also the founder of the Jacqui Shipanga Academy which won the NFA Women Super League for the first time in the 2011/2012 season ahead of Okahandja Beauties.
