ASPIRING actor, model and dancer, Anya Cloete is a step closer to realising her dreams, having recently been selected to perform at the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in the United States.
ARTS, a week-long talent showcase, brings together actors, singers, dancers and fashion/ commercial models and gives them stage time to showcase their talents in front of various agencies that are in search of new talent.
The showcase was founded by renowned talent scout Kim Myers 20 years ago and has gone on to launch the careers of many.
The 15-year old local will go head-to-head with young talent from the US, Australia and South Africa; where she was initially scouted for the talent showcase.
“I signed with ACE Models in South Africa. During the agency’s national conference I found out about the International Talent Showcase (ITS) in South Africa, which is where I was scouted by an ARTS talent scout,” she said.
Cloete said she was ecstatic about the talent showcase, although costly, because it would help her get closer to her lifelong dream of being a professional performer.
“I do not feel that I f i t i n unless I am performing. I have loved it since I was really young. Dancing and modelling are mostly a hobby but acting is my passion, so much so I took up drama for high school when I enrolled at Windhoek International School and have been doing it for the past four years,” she explained.
Cloete noted that she was c on f i d e nt that should would rise to the top, and hopefully be scouted by some the top talent agencies in the world because of her persistence, dedication and hard work.
However she was realistic that there is a chance it might not pan out for her, noting she had various plans in place if things do not go her way. “I have applied for auditions at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) for September, if I don’t get in; there is an alternate acting summer school I would like to attend. But when I graduate from high school I would like to study filmmaking and graphic design,” Cloete said.
The talent showcase will take place from July 25 to August 1 in Orlando, Florida.
