The third edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup scheduled for the 6th and 7th August 2016, is expected to draw record crowds as PSL Champions and Dr. Hage Geingob Cup defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns will clash against Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and MTC Premiership winners Tigers take on a yet to be confirmed local side at the Independence Stadium.
On the 6th August, Orlando Pirates will play the reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Sundowns come with a complete team, and with their recent performance at the 2016 PSL awards, they come star studded with the PSL Coach of the Year, Pitso Mosimane, and Khama Billiat Footballer of the Season and Absa Players Player of the Season.
As if that is not enough artillery for Sundowns, Dennis Onyango collected the goalkeeper of the season award, whereas Thabo Nthethe was named defender of the season and player of the tournament in the Telkom Knockout, definitely making them a force to be reckoned with.
According the NFA official website, Orlando Pirates on the other hand recently beefed up their squad with new youthful signings, Mobara (22) and Norodien (21) from Ajax Cape Town. It will definitely be exciting to see two top PSL clubs battle it out for a place in the Dr Hage Geingob final.
On the same day, MTC Premiership league winners Tigers FC will face an unknown MTC Premiership opponent yet to be decided by sms votes. Voting lines officially opened on the 18th May and will close on the 23rd July and soccer fans are encouraged to vote for their team by texting the team’s name to the number 5003.
So far only 4049 sms votes have been received and the club that has the most votes so far totals 1441, and the team second so far has only 897 votes, third place 444, fourth place 431 and in fifth place only 168 votes. The lowest Club on 11th place has zero votes while club on the 14th spot has only two votes. Tigers and the local club from the sms will each receive N$400,000 participation fee.
Tickets to the games are already on sale at Compu ticket for only N$20. One tickets gives you access to a double header on the 6th August, while another N$20 tickets gives you access to another double header on the 7th August which includes the final. Fans can however buy a N$30 ticket which gives them access to both days.
