THE Namibia Institute of Pathology is mandated to carry out research into the pathology of diseases and diagnostic services and therefore “inherited” 17 laboratories in 2000 with a staff compliment of 203 from the Ministry of Health and Social Services. Today it is the largest diagnostic pathology service provider in Namibia with a total number of 40 laboratories with 450 staff members in 14 regions serving both state and private clients. Imperatively this State Owned Enterprise is financially self-sustaining without government subsidy.
Over the past few years it has embarked on a drive to develop its infrastructure attaining the following notable milestones in the development of its capacity to provide world class pathology services.
Completed following infrastructure improvements:
Molecular Diagnostic Unit (MDU) at Windhoek Central Reference Lab (WRCL) to perform Viral Load and DNA PCR
Swakopmund, Rundu Private, Oshakati Private, Outjo, Walvisbay,, Oshikuku, Otjiwarongo Private,
Current projects in progress:
NIP HQ (2014) including Private lab
Khorixas, Tsandi, Katima Mulilo, Omuthiya ,Eenhana, WRCL (Reception & Histopathology) , Keetmanshoop and Grootfontein.
