THE DTA of Namibia, Ohangwena regional coordinator Hidipo Hamata is demanding the removal of regional Governor, Usko Nghaamwa and his special advisor retired Major-General Peter Nambundunga accusing them of being incompetent and holding the region back.
Hamata who was speaking at a regional committee meeting at Ohangwena on Saturday alleged that Nghaamwa lacked proper skills and the political experience that he has acquired over the years had become irrelevant especially at a time when the country is fighting for economic emancipation.
“Let me use this opportunity to say something about our region in general. We are behind and not behind because we want, we are behind because of the Governor and his advisor. We want a new Governor and an advisor to the Governor who is an economist at least,” said Hamata.
He further said that the downfall of the border town Oshikango should be blamed on the ‘illiterate’ local authority councillors who are politically appointed for fat cheques and allowances only.
“Look at the current local authority councillors both at Helao Nafidi and Okongo town. Some of them are illiterate; some don’t know their town boundaries while some are in for fat salaries and allowances. Can you have a town with leaders of that nature?” said Hamata.
However, Nghaamwa rubbished the allegations saying that whoever is disputing the development in his region does not know what to they are talking about as he has fully developed the region.
“No one has the authority to remove me from the region, apart from the President who appointed me. If he (Hamata) wants me to be removed from the region, he must come to my office and tell me his concerns and his reasons,” said Nghaamwa.
The governor also said that he had developed Ohangwena region with new infrastructure such as tarred roads, clinics, schools, water and sanitation sites to mention but a few.
“I know Hamata very well. He must come to my office and I will show him around the region. I will start to show him from his home village because I do not think if he knows how big the region is and the kind of projects that the regional council is busy with at the moment. I do not have time for politically immature people like Hamata,” said Nghaamwa. Nambundunga could not be reached for comment.
