The Brave Gladiators that is on their annual Westphalia Tour has won one of their six games thus far as they continue to learn and play the beautiful game in Germany.
The ladies left for Germany on Thursday and started of their campaign on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to FSV Gutersloh and again 1-0 against Warendorfer SU before holding Werder Bremen to a goalless draw and on Monday drew again 0-0 against Westphalia Regional team, amongst the games played.
Brave Gladiators head coach Jacqueline Shipanga, who is accompanying the team coached by Bryan van Staden, says the players are impressing as they look to step up to the late and force their names in the senior national team.
“The players are really playing well and showing so much promise. Our normal benchwarmers at the senior level are stepping up and out and doing themselves a great deal of good. Anna-Marie Shikusho is looking to replace Stella Williams as the first choice goal scorer. Sharon Pieters, Mellissa Matheus and Kylie van Wyk are all showing great mantle as well”, Shipanga says.
Veteran Gladiator Juliana Skrywer is also using the opportunity to find a club in Germany since scouts indicated interest in her while for Kylie van Wyk, she is touted as the next Zenatha Coleman based on her great footwork and agility.
The team, captain by Germany-based Veweziwa Kotjipati is expected back home on 20 August 2016.
