THE recently held Khomasdal constituency annual education fair attracted leaners from various Windhoek schools to look at the possible fields of study they might undertake at tertiary level, and future careers they might consider after their matric level.
In her keynote address at Chairman Mao Zedong High School, where the event was taking place, chairperson of the National Council and Khomasdal constituency councillor Margaret Mensah-Williams said, ‘‘This event is for the less privileged learners in Khomas region. It is their opportunity to be aware and access this relevant information in order to know what the market holds for them.
“We are giving this opportunity to you learners to empower yourselves, and we want you to grab it with open arms and go face to face to those exhibitors, and ask them anything you desire to know about their institutions,” she concluded.
Another speaker at the official opening was a winner of World Championships of Performing Arts in USA Cassia Sharpley who gave a motivational speech to fellow learners, encouraging them to reach for the stars and never lose hope, not matter what obstacles they are faced with.
“Believe in yourself and your ability to achieve and see the world from the top after starting at the bottom. It requires focus and determination. The other things like socialising should not take centre stage in your life, their time will come. I also want to say that you must not go looking for love all over the place because you will never find it. The world can be a very cruel place. Find love in your family. Do not let your deprived background and bad circumstances determine your destiny because we were all born to be victorious. Believe in yourself. And please never undermine or neglect your education. Education empowers and makes you bold, but remember to remain humble.”
Given the lifetime opportunity to tour various educational institutions as well as Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that were present at the fair and engage them for more information, learners were enlightened and motivated to be masters of their own destinies and ensure that they succeed in all their doings.
