Local sport lovers can look forward to an uninterrupted live broadcast of the 2016 Olympic Games whose official opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
The life broadcast will kick off on Saturday of which MultiChoice Namibia will televise the Summer Olympic boxing events on SuperSport Five while cycling will be broadcast on SuperSport Six.
MultiChoice Namibia has today as part of Namibia’s participation at the Summer Games, announced that games would be broadcast live.
Speaking during a panel discussion that deliberated on the country’s Olympic and Para-Olympic athletes and the sports in which they will compete, MultiChoice Namibia, General-Manager, Roger Gertze announced that SuperSport will showcase all 306 Olympic events.
The events would be broadcast live across seven channels on DStv and three channels on Gotv.
He said the decision was to ensure that MultiChoice subscribers get a front-row opportunity to support Namibians as the athletes participate in the global sporting event.
“In fact there will be more than 2500 hours of the Olympics broadcast over the 15-days,” said Gertze.
Deputy Minister of Sport, Agnes Tjongarero, who was part of the panel said its always inspiring to see and be aware that certain private sector companies take ownership to assist Government as an important stakeholder.
Team Namibia comprises of ten athletes who will compete in various sporting events such as: athletics, boxing, cycling, mountain biking and marathon.
The event was amongst others attended by the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) Executive member, Ndeulipumwa Hamutumwa and FIFA’s accredited instructor, Mathew Haikali.
