THE National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) officially launched the Month of Science in Windhoek on Tuesday. The Month of Science, which comprises of four major events centres on science, technology and innovation activities, will kick off on September 5.
The Month of Science is made up of four events, starting with the National Science Fair 5 – 11 September which will be followed by the National Science, Technology and Innovation Festival 12th -16th September, the Namport Biggest Brainer Science Quiz 19th -21st September, and the National Research Symposium 21st – 23rd September 2016. The Month of Science will close with the National Research, Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation Awards ceremony on September 23.
These awards will be hosted in recognition of individual scientists, researchers, technologists, engineers and various science institutions for their contributions to the development of science, technology and innovation in Namibia. The awards will be granted in line with the Operational Guide for the National Research, Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation Awards approved by Cabinet.
In his opening remarks at the launch, NCRST CEO Dr. Eino Mvula said, “This is in line with our strategic plan, and as one of the five strategic priorities that is aimed to promote science, technology and innovation, to attract the best and brightest into the careers of science through our sustained outreached efforts. Embracing careers in science, it will enable young people to become drivers of the new discoveries and innovations that will create growth and enhance quality of our people’s lives.”
“I would like to underscore that the solutions of tomorrow evolve in the junction where different perspectives and competences meet. They are developed in the meeting between different people, industries and sectors, and it is with this understanding that NCRST wishes to invite all innovative actors from various sectors and fields of knowledge to join us at these four events. We are looking forward to a huge participation of all stakeholders in different capacities either as audiences, exhibitors or presenters of research findings.”
