ESTABLISHED late last year in an attempt to revolutionise local professional boxing, Salute Boxing Promotions has been dealt a blow when it was slapped with a suspension which will take effect immediately.
Confidente Sport has been reliably informed that the suspension was decided upon after a fracas in Walvis Bay where Salute Boxing Promotions hosted a boxing bonanza two months ago.
The draw card at that bonanza was Bethuel Tyson Uushona who fought and lost the World Boxing Federation (WBF) welterweight fight against German national, Deniz Ilby.
Fans of Uushona protested against the decision and directed their anger at the judges and the WBF president, Howard Goldberg, thus putting their safety at risk.
Namibia Boxing and Wrestling Control Board Chairperson, Kelly Nghixulifwa confirmed the suspension to Confidente Sport this week.
“The suspension was effected after the promoter of the stable failed to implement the safety and security measures as stipulated,” said Nghixulifwa.
When asked about what transpired the boxing chairman said he was not there himself but according to what he had been informed was that both the safety of WBF officials from the Namibia Boxing Control Board was compromised.Nghixulifwa said the suspension was in force pending the outcome of the investigation.
Salute Boxing Promotions owner, Kriata Kamanja said he did not receive any communication from the boxing controlling body. “I have not received any letter. That is Kelly’s story, there was nothing like that,” refuted Kamanja.
“I don’t know which officials were threatened but the problem was that supporters were not happy with the decision taken. Kelly was not even there. The only officials who were there were Joe Kaperu and Elisson Hijarunguru. Ask them,” demanded Kamanja.
Also contacted for his view on the matter, Kaperu, an administrator of the boxing control board, said all he saw were fans who were protesting against the judges’ decision.“Really, there was no threatening whatsoever,” Kaperu said.
