THE Swapo party women’s council in the Erongo region wants its Walvis Bay rural district coordinator and information mobilisation secretary to be removed from their positions with immediate effect because it does not have faith in them.
According to a letter dated August 17 written to Swapo Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba, Swapo Party Women’s Council (SPWC) secretary Petrina Haingura and Swapo Erongo regional coordinator Phillipus Heita stated that it intends to pass a vote of no confidence against Hilma Shikongo (coordinator) and Ndapewa Johannes (information secretary)
“We would like to submit a vote of no confidence against the Walvis Bay Rural district Swapo Women Council executives, namely comrade Hilma Shikongo the district coordinator, and the information and mobilisation comrade Ndapewa Johannes,” part of the letter read.
The letter further stated that Johannes and Shikongo have been disrespecting the party constitution and were misleading the women’s council and create tensions among the female members of the district.
“The two comrades are de-campaign members for positions, promoting tribalism and favouritism among members and they encourage and advise comrades to vote for members who committed fraud. “We are here to organise Swapo party members and recruit new ones. In the spirit of Harambee, we request your office to address the two executives as they are misleading and confusing the members. We cannot be led by leaders who are not honest and mislead our members.”
The women’s council proposed that the district holds an extraordinary conference so that a new leadership can be elected and a forensic audit be carried out immediately.
In another letter dated August 17, the women’s council revealed that at the Swapo Erongo regional women’s council conference held in Arandis to elect a new regional leadership, Johannes objected to the nomination of Sarafina Shongola who was nominated to contest for information and mobilisation position.
Contacted for comment Shikongo said she had nothing much to say as she was perplexed to what is being ascribed to her together with Johannes. ”Don’t know how one person can overrule many people. I have nothing to say,” she said.
Haingura said she could not comment as she was in a meeting, while Mbumba refused to comment referring the questions to the Women’s Council.
