NAMIBIAN marathon runners will on Saturday be expected to showcase fierce competition at the third edition of the Navachab Gold Mine Half Marathon Run in Karibib.
The event that saw a decline in its second edition is expected to attract a huge interest this time around due to free transport made possible by the Ministry of Sport through its Directorate of Sport.
Event organiser and sports officer, Betuel Karumendu announced at a media briefing that regions have been combined to have a maximum interest at the event.
Karumendu said the free transport cost the Ministry of Sport about N$ 30 000 to commute runners to the town of Karibib.
The marathon event will have three categories which will feature the junior, senior and registered athletes with only the senior and registered athletes expected to fork out N$50 and N$40 as registration fee.
The runners will be accommodated at the town’s youth hostel.
Navachab Gold Mine community relations officer, Lion Kahimise called on all Karibib residents to come in their numbers to make the event a huge success.
In the senior category, the first three winners in both the male and female showdowns will walk away with N$5 000, N$2 000 and N$1 000 respectively.
The junior division will see the winners taking home N$2 000, N$1 000 and N$700 while top three masters category winners will pocket N$2 000, N$1 000 and N$5 00, respectively.
The masters division winners will be awarded N$1 500, N$7 00 and N$500 for their troubles.
