A female police constable from Oshakati, Aini Mpingana Michael (28) who was arrested for allegedly aborting her pregnancy, told the court that her family forced her to terminate her pregnancy.
Michael made a brief court appearance at the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court, last week.
Appearing before Magistrate Makaba Simasiku, she dragged her family in the mud informing the court that she committed the heinous act because her parents had complained.
She was granted bail of N$1 000 and the matter has been postponed to 28 November for further investigations.
The mother of two who is stationed at Oshakati police station allegedly terminated her pregnancy at her home in Ongwediva last week.
According to media reports, it is reported that after the abortion, Michael placed the foetus into a black refuse bag which she went to dump at the Ongwediva dumpsite together with other refuse.
The foetus was then discovered by municipal officials who notified the police. Michael was traced through notes that were found together with the foetus in the refuse bag, and she is currently facing charges of concealment of birth.
Michael has since been admitted at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where she has been receiving medical treatment under the watchful eye of the police.
