Boxing promoter, Nestor Tobias, said the fight between Sacky Shikukutu and Chris van Heerden stole the night at the Emperors Palace, South Africa.
Tobias said in a press release that both fighters threw heavy blows with Shikukutu clearly leading the first four rounds with heavy punches that should have ended the fight.
However, failing to finish off his opponent in the preceding rounds, Van Heerden grew in confidence with a series of successful jabs but clearly staying clear of Shikukutu’s heavy punches.
At the end of round 12, Van Heerden emerged the winner on points. “I think Shikukutu fought well, but should have done better but that is boxing. He gave a good account of himself against a worthy opponent training in the best gyms in the USA, but he fought bravely,” said Tobias.
He said the Academy will continue to give all hard working boxers in their gym and other gyms equal opportunities for big fights like the one of Shikukutu.
Tobias said that he look forward to the future with more fights slated for Russia.
