NAMIBIANS can expect to see more local referees officiating at continental ournaments next year. Thisfollows the successful completion of a FIFA itness course that was conducted in Windhoek ast week. The course was conducted by ocal referees’ instructor, Moses Hidengwa.Namibia Football Association (NFA) referees administrator, Absalom Goseb confirmed that 60 referees participated in the fitness course which he hailed as a huge success.
Goseb said at least five referees and nine assistant referees have passed the test to officiate internationally.
“Namibia has competent referees of which some have officiated at this year’s Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Championship. I am confident that our referees will do a better job when assigned to officiate at regional and continental events”.
He said though the fitness test was a complete success these referees will only receive their accreditation as FIFA referees during the first week of December.
Among the competitions that the Namibian referees can look forward to officiating include the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Madagascar next year, the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Zambia, and the Fifa Under-20 World Cup slated for Korea Republic.
