There seem to be a light simmering at the far end of the tunnel after the Namibia Premier League (NPL) today announced a sponsorship deal with a local company with business interest globally.
NPL Chairman, Johnny John Doeseb made the announcement at the at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Soccer House.
Following the sponsorship announcement with Groot System PTY Limited (property group) of N$ nine million amounting to an annual N$ three million for the next three years, Doeseb said their business proposal to the corporate world co9nsist of four pillars.
These are called platinum, gold, silver and bronze of which they individually has different investment returns to the potential sponsors.
Though, the NPL has secured the N$ nine million sponsorship from Groot System PTY Limited, the Premier League is in short of N$ 21 million to have the 2016/17 football season up and running.
However, the status quo still remain as the league kick off is not guaranteed, and for the new season to start the NPL needs the N$ 24 million to have the new season up and running.
Doeseb said the sponsorship deal will be formalized by next week as the legal teams of both parties are at this stage perusing the terms of the contract and looking at the technical and legal processes.
Groot System Limited PTY has opted for the bronze bracket that has the following investment returns: branding rights at NPL matches, co-branding rights of all 36 Nationwide First Division teams etc.
He said the NPL Board of Governors (BoG) has at a meeting held this morning mandated the Management Committee (MC) to devise a strategic plan on the way forward, and present it (plan) to the BoG by next week.
The NPL chairman has revealed that they have send engagement letters to 36 companies, this letters is primarily for the NPL to seek audience with the companies so as to present their business proposal to these companies.
Of the 36 companies only the Groot System Limited PTY and the Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) have responded to the request.
He said the NBL is perusing the business proposals and discussing it internally before reverting back to the NPL with their decision.
