PICK n Pay (PnP) Namibia – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group – officially inaugurated its renovated and upgraded Katima Mulilo branch. The event was officiated by Zambezi Regional Governor, Lawrence Sampofu and attended by various guests including O&L Executive Chairman, Sven Thieme and Pick n Pay Namibia Managing Director, Norbert Wurm – amongst others.
Wurm said, “I am immensely proud yet humbled to continue celebrating our journey of growth and commitment. This morning I am particularly pleased to see our dream of this beautiful store in Katima Mulilo come to fruition. In line with the O&L Group purpose ‘Creating a future, enhancing life’ and the vision metric of creating an additional 4 000 jobs by 2019, I am extremely delighted to confirm Pick n Pay’s commitment towards this goal as we are now employing close to 2 300 Namibians across the country, with Pick n Pay Katima Mulilo employing 128 Namibians. Through the opening of new stores and focusing on growth at large, we are cognizant of the critical role we play in supporting Government’s Growth-at-Home strategy while strongly supporting the collective vision of eradicating poverty as outlined in the principles and goals of the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP).”
Thieme placed emphasis on the group’s strategic focus areas which includes creating amazing experiences, enduring impact; sustainable execution in everything, and inspiring everyone to purposefully produce breakthrough everywhere. Thieme: “Our people are our most important asset, and I am proud of our leadership programme ‘O&L World’ that has created breakthrough leaders – 2700 people have gone through leadership training thus far. This is the product which speaks for itself as the majority of our PnP stores in the north are successfully run under the leadership of very competent women. This is typical O&L culture to grow Namibians by empowering every single one through Leadership development; Talent management & Succession planning. Congratulations to Pick n Pay on the successful refurbishment of the PnP Katima Mulilo store. I am confident that this is another step in the right direction bringing us closer to realizing the O&L 2019 Vision and ultimately that of Vision 2030.”
Governor Sampofu delivered the keynote address and referred to Pick n Pay Katima Mulilo as part of the Zambezi family, in particular that of Katima Mulilo. Sampofu: “This morning’s activity is exciting for all of us. Existing now for 9 years, this PnP store which was opened on 20 September 2007 has become a shopping destination of choice for many of our residents. And it has become a home for our daily needs. I for one am very excited at the introduction of a fresh and newly upgraded Katima Pick n Pay store and I can tell you that I am very impressed with what I’ve seen during the tour through the store. Pick n Pay’s commitment to enhancing its footprint, upgrading its stores countrywide and most importantly, making a difference wherever it operates is most commendable. Now with 23 stores countrywide, employing close to 2300 people, I can only congratulate Pick n Pay Namibia on the immense contribution it is making to the growth of our country’s economy.”
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Pick n Pay Katima Mulilo has committed itself to assist the Mainstream Foundation centre that looks after 50 disabled children and provides them with education. For the next 12 months Mainstream Foundation will receive a monthly gift card from Pick n Pay Katima worth N$1000, which will be used to purchase food and other goods needed at the school to sustain the children.
“Thank you Pick n Pay, for re-affirming your commitment to making a difference by truly living and passionately driving the O&L Group purpose ‘Creating a future, Enhancing life’ for all Namibians. This purpose has definitely rubbed off on many of us as it is a great inspiration to contribute to the growth of our nation,” Sampofu concluded.
