PRESIDENT of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) and Executive Chairman Ohlthaver & List, Sven Thieme who led a 27-man Namibia business delegation for a Namibia Investment Forum on September 22 in the US has returned bullish about the rewards of the event.
The forum that was organised as a curtain-raiser for the main Investment Conference to be held in Windhoek in November and included captains of industry and an address by President Hage Geingob, was to raise confidence and trust in Namibia and offer flexibility to attract investors.
In a short interview with Confidente, Thieme said that Namibia managed to market itself as a gateway to southern Africa with the potential of accessing up to 300 million consumers.
“The main focus was to represent Namibia as a prime investment destination! I believe we have successfully marketed Namibia as a gateway to southern Africa with the potential of accessing up to 300 million customers or consumers.
The idea was to raise confidence and trust in Namibia and offer flexibility to attract investors. The next steps now are clearly that the connections which have been created need to be followed up. We have already been invited by the New Jersey chamber to participate in their investor conference next year. They have gone as far as to endorse us to ensure proper interest is generated. I really believe that it was really successful. “I think we will see that there will be an increased interest. In fact a major chamber in the US that focuses on sub-Saharan Africa will attend our conference,” he said.
The delegation also included Namport boss Bisey Uirab, David Nuyoma of GIPF, as well as Quinton van Rooyen of Trustco. The CEOs of NamPower, ECB, Standard Bank, NTB, DBN, NCCI, B2Gold and NHE were also part of the entourage to the US.
They were also joined by local business personalities John Endjala of J&P Group, Kauna Ndilula CEO of Business Financial Solutions, Matti Amukwa from the Confederation of Namibia Fishing Associations, as well as TransNamib board chairperson Paul Smit, among many others.
