A one-year-old toddler died after falling into a bucket of water at Omuthiya in Oshikoto region, last week.
The police have identified the toddler as Elizabeth Minna Fisch.
NamPol’s chief inspector, Stephan Nuuyi of the community affairs department said that the child was at home playing with other children when the incident happened.
“She was later found drowned in a bucket of water. The details are a bit sketchy at the moment,” said Nuuyi.
The next of kin have been informed.
In a separate incident, a police officer was arrested for allegedly shooting a minor at Okalongo in Omusati region, over the weekend.
According to Omusati police spokesperson, warrant officer Lineekela Shikongo who confirmed the incident, the officer shot Hafeni Mwanyangapo (16) at his grandmother’s homestead.
“I understand that the police officer was arrested immediately after the incident occurred but I cannot give any details pertaining to the incident as the matter is being handled by the internal investigations department,” said Shikongo.
Mwanyangapo is believed to have been shot after his grandmother alerted the police to discipline him for bringing a girlfriend home.
Shikongo said that Mwanyangapo is receiving medical attention at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital and in a stable condition.
