FOR its 13th consecutive year, the annual Christmas Party for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) hosted by the O&L Group once again contributed to making this year’s festive season extra special for less fortunate children.
More than 200 grade 1 learners from the Monte Christo Primary Project School which accommodates orphans and vulnerable children attended the Christmas party that took place at the headquarters of Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL
Currently accommodating 208 OVCs, the Monte Christo Primary Project School officially started operations on February 9 2016 with only five tented classrooms. The O&L Group eventually donated two additional containerised classrooms in its commitment to creating a conducive learning environment. Annually, operating companies of the O&L Group namely Pick n Pay (PnP) Namibia; NBL; Namibia Dairies (ND); Windhoek Schlachterei; Broll Namibia; Dimension Data; O&L Energy; O&L Leisure; Hangana Seafood; Kraatz Marine; Weathermen & Co and Brandtribe support this initiative in making it a memorable day for the children.
Group corporate social investment (CSI) coordinator, Venessa Mwiya said, “We rotate this initiative amongst the schools, Orphanage homes and Children shelters that we support within the O&L Group. This event remains one of the most anticipated charity events on the O&L calendar, because the smiles on these children’s faces and the joy that prevails at this annual initiative is priceless, and adds even more value to giving. This event is always planned and organised with the greatest passion by O&L employees and the Management team”.
Jumping castles, motorbikes, face painting and delicious foods such as hotdogs, juice, Oshikandela, a giant Christmas cake, ice-cream, candy floss and watermelons were some of what the children enjoyed at this year’s event. Santa Claus also made an appearance and blessed each of the children with a gift pack.
Principal of the Monte Christo Primary Project School, Elizabeth Murangi said, “I am so happy. The children can’t stop talking about the party. Everyone was excited, including the teachers. What excited me more was the fact that it was not only a party, but also an excursion for the children. The fun park and the goodies are things they do not get exposed to everyday. So it did them very good. The arrival of Santa Claus on a motorbike was a highlight most of the children still talk about. This party really contributed to the spirit of these kids and the teachers as well. They need such upliftments. Thank you O&L for the difference you make and for the value you add to the lives of these children“.
