THE fate of Okalongo settlement chief control officer, Armandus Kandowa who is accused of a string of corrupt activities including the dubious selling of plots will be presented to the Omusati Regional Council’s management committee today, Confidente has learnt.
This was confirmed by the regional council’s chairperson, Modestus Amutse following the conclusion of investigations into the allegations irregular affairs by Kandowa.
Kandowa stands accused of selling plots ranging from N$60 000 to N$125 000 for his benefit. The committee was also investigating the case of 18 plots allocated to a well-connected political aide and the dubious practice of selling the same plots to different individuals amongst other complaints.
A recommendation was however made last month not to remove Kandowa from office pending the investigation’s outcome.
The regional council in recent months was prompt to set up a committee to look into the queries of Okalongo residents after numerous complaints were reported to the council chambers.
“The committee is expected to present its report. For now, I cannot comment on further until the committee reports their findings to the management committee because I do not know if the investigators have spoken to Kandowa during the investigations or not,” said Amutse.
When contacted for comment this week, Kandowa pleaded ignorance saying he was shocked to hear from the media about being investigated by his employer without him being notified first.
“I have not seen anyone from the regional council or any investigators in my office, maybe they consulted the community. It is also illegal for the council to inform the media that I am being investigated without them notifying me,” Kandowa said.
Kandowa has been making headlines recently after news broke out that the he has been allegedly selling large plots to close friends and relatives.
The lack of development facing Onandjaba settlement and Okalongo constituency at large is said to be well documented, while endless efforts to address the problems facing the community of Onandjaba have been a concern of every resident.
