THE owner of Makalani Hotel at Tsumeb, Zoganas Periklis Konstantinos was allegedly robbed at gunpoint at his house in Tsumeb on Sunday.
According to Naomi Katjiua, Oshikoto regional crime investigation coordinator, Konstantinos (74) was at home when three male suspects allegedly entered his house, held him at gunpoint and demanded for money and diamonds, while beating him with fists and open hands.
“He was tied with his own vest around the mouth, while his hands were tied with shoe laces,” said Katjiua.
The suspects allegedly managed to get away with a combined amount of money in different currencies including N$36 000, R1 000, US$700, euros 2 500, a 9mm pistol, necklace, and a ring.
Katjiua said that Konstantinos was allegedly home alone.
The suspects are not known and no arrests have been made so far.
In another separate incident, it is alleged that a 36-year-old man from Oshaampula village in Oshikoto region committed suicide by using a rope around his neck on a tree nearby his homestead.
He was found dead by his sister.
The deceased who was identified as Pinehas Nkandi did not leave behind a suicide note and his next of kin have been informed.
Katjiua said that a post mortem will be conducted to determine the real cause of death.
Investigations into both matters are continuing.
