AHEAD of the Swapo congress mid-next year dubbed Agenda 2017, it appears that political desperation is beginning to take its toll with some BEEs having been busy bribing Swapo regional coordinators in order to get their own candidates in the top four positions of the ruling party.
Essentially the root cause of this is as a result of the fact that since the engine of corruption stopped wheeling their multi-million dollar deals, certain corrupt BEE forces have become frustrated with the current regime’s lack of tolerance towards corruption, and have since retreated to grassroots level where the majority of regional coordinators are reportedly on the payroll of the tenderprenuers (who are known to Confidente).
The President’s lack of willingness to accommodate greedy elites has led to the disintegration of ‘Team Hage’. Some of the disintegrated corrupt elite have now regrouped with focus on the 2017 Swapo congress and have now started off at regional council level to gunner for support using their ill-gotten money which they have used to relentlessly pay off people at grassroots.
When reaching out to the grassroots level, these BEE individuals have tried to use propaganda to mislead the public that the country’s economic woes only started with the current President while deliberately omitting to state that our troubles began with the inflation of several billion dollar tenders in 2013.
The corrupt elite forces have been frustrated by new measures introduced by Finance Minister Calle Schlettwein to introduce fiscal discipline and the freezing of inflated Government tenders that have brought the country to its economic meltdown.
The disintegrated team’s expectations were to hit the jackpot before the current regime took over power from former President Hifikepunye Pohamba. But they were rather shell-shocked when the gravy-train came to a standstill after the introduction of stringent measures by President Hage Geingob to curb corruption. To add to their frustrations, several investigations have been instituted to unearth the logic behind the overly inflated cost prices in several public procurement projects they have benefitted from.
The fresh revelations of scheming and the ‘buying’ of regional coordinators is clear indication money will be used as a key influence in the outcome of next year’s Swapo congress.
The cost of competing for Swapo’s influential positions is expected to increase almost 10 times than ever before. The role of money in influencing next year’s party congress will be an unfair advantage to others than those preferred by BEE culprits because they are using state resources from profits derived from the very same inflated contracts accrued from Government. It also remains a serious concern because some influential senior Cabinet figures are using state resources to collude with their business partners outside Government to push their agenda against the status quo.
As we head towards 2017, we must collectively avert any situation, which puts the vote of the Swapo congress in the hands of money, more so, ‘black money’. We must vehemently denounce the skewed philosophy that those who have ‘the money’ make the rules and determine the agenda.
Strategic investment in understanding sources of these enormous campaign funds that we see today is very critical. We must raise vigil to check any flow of ‘black money’ from external sources. The public ought to monitor any acts of elements that dip their rapacious hands into the public coffers.
