PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has announced the extension of the terms of office of Bank of Namibia governor, Ipumbu Shiimi and the deputy governor, Ebson Uanguta, for a further five years with effect from January 1 2017 to December 31 2021.
Both these appointments were done in terms of the Bank of Namibia Act (Act no.15 of 1997), Part II Section 4 (2), which authorises the President to appoint the governor and the deputy governor of the central bank.
The Head of State lauded the achievements of the two leaders of during the current term, which expires on December 31, and wished them continued successes during the coming term.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Mines and Energy also announced the appointment of the new Board of Directors to the Namibia Power Corporation (Nampower).
Obeth Kandjoze announced that the six new members have been appointed to the board for a four-year term. The Board consists of Kauna Ndilula who is appointed as chairperson, Daniel Motinga who will serve as deputy chairperson whilst Anna Matebele, Andreas Kanime, Sara Naanda, and Dr. Detlof von Oertzen will serve as ordinary members.
“The appointment of the board is effective from January 1 2017 until December 31 2020 … as members of the Nampower, they will thus undertake responsibilities to promote the growth and profitability of Nampower; to promote local supply, local beneficiation and employment; to adhere to the principles of good governance and effective management; to promote sustainable growth, poverty eradication and development in Namibia; to act at all times in the best interest of the company and the shareholders; act with due skill, care and adhere to industry best practices; to take charge of the business, affairs and day-to-day administration of the company; and any other fiduciary duty not limited to the above expected from a board member as in terms of the company regulations or corporate governance,” said Kandjoze.
