AN Angolan drug mule, Huyeye Joao, was on Monday arrested at the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) for possession of cocaine worth N$423 500.
The drug mule aged 41 had swallowed 117 cocaine bullets and had to be taken to hospital where the drugs were flushed out of his body. The Angolan national was in transit from Sao Paulo, Brazil via South Africa en route to Angola via Namibia when Nampol intelligence intercepted him. Nampol spokesperson Chief Inspector, Kauna Shikwambi yesterday said that the drug mule has since been discharged from hospital and was expected to appear in court yesterday.
“Through intelligence led investigations the police managed to arrest an Angolan drug mule on 12 Dec 2016 at 1800hrs at HKIA. He was coming from Sao Paulo, Brazil via RSA, Namibia then to Angola. The suspect had swallowed cocaine bullets and was therefore hospitalised in order to flush out the cocaine from his body. The 41-year-old suspect was discharged from hospital today (Wednesday) and is expected to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today. Investigations into the matter continue,”
Meanwhile, Nampol’s head of the Crime Investigation Directorate (CID) Commissioner Generaal Du Toit in an exclusive interview with Confidente recently revealed that 942 cases of drug possession, distribution and dealing were recorded in the past six months. In July, Nampol also arrested 208 people for drug related cases, 160 in August and 157 in April. Du Toit added that cannabis, marijuana, dagga and mandrax are mostly trafficked from South Africa and DRC via Angola.
