THE owner of Young African Football Club says it is not for sale, despite persistent rumours to the contrary.
The club was promoted to the Namibia Premier League last year and will compete in the top flight, if it ever kicks off this year.
Rumours have been doing the rounds that club owner, Maleachi Ngarizemo, has sold the club for a cool N$1,3 million
However, a furious Ngarizemo, a former African Stars and Brave Warriors defender, shot back, saying: “That rumour is untrue and unsubstantiated, and for a man of my personality and calibre I have not stooped that low,” he said.
“I have never been in any business deals. Yes, there were people who knocked on my door, expressing their interest in purchasing the club and that’s just that,” he said.
“I am sole the owner of Young African FC and if I have to sell it that will be my prerogative and again there is a clause that compels the new owner not to relocate the club to another town,” revealed Ngarizemo.” Although the majority of the players live and train in Windhoek, the club has played its first division matches in Gobabis and with the support of that town’s local authority, Young African has made Legare Stadium its base.
“There are no deals reached with any party and the club remains in Gobabis as the inhabitants of that town have rallied behind the club and have helped it to qualify for the NPL in a space of two years,” he reiterated.
Ngarizemo has also taken issue with some media reports which listed his club as among those that have not yet paid affiliation fees to the NPL, as is required by football statutes.
“I have paid our affiliation fees last year already and I wish to state that my club has paid its dues of N$15 000. I have the receipt to prove it,” he said.
“The bottom line at this stage is that the club is not sold and we will kick off our pre-season training in early February,” he noted.
Ngarizemo said the pre-season training will also be determined by the outcome of the NPL Annual General Meeting (AGM) billed for early next month.
