THE Chief Executive Officer of Omuthiya town council, Samuel Mbango has revealed to Confidente that the construction of Omuthiya sports stadium will commence in two months’ time as the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is currently busy revising the programme of work.
Mbango said that the construction of the stadium will be one of the major developmental projects that the council is planning to undertake this year.
“We are just waiting on FIFA to send the contractors and the construction of the stadium will commence. We are excited to announce this project, as it is one of the major projects we will be working on, this year and we want it to run smoothly,” said Mbango.Last year, the Governor of Oshikoto region, Henock Kankoshi announced that FIFA has made a commitment to fund the construction of the new Omuthiya sports complex to the tune of N$1 million.
“A commitment has been obtained from FIFA to fund the Omuthiya Sports complex to the tune of N$ 1 million. The sports stadium will serve as a youth development initiative,” said Kankoshi.
Kankoshi who could not divulge more information regarding the construction of the stadium said that Omuthiya sports stadium has been chosen as the beneficiary of the FIFA Goal Project Five initiative.
The sports complex will be the first to be built at Omuthiya town.
If all goes according to plan the project should be completed by the end of this year.
However, Frans Mbidi, the NFA president told Confidente that he is not aware of the recent donation made by FIFA saying that the whole information regarding the construction of the sports complex lies with the Omuthiya town council management.
“I am not aware of the recent donation that FIFA has pledged towards the construction of the sports complex. All I can tell you are that the study to verify the land was carried out and finalised the other information you can get it from the town council,” said Mbidi.
