ASPIRING artist Gift Kwala Munzule known as Attitude the Icon says he is ready to take the music scene with his blend of hip-hop with an African look and feel twist.
Born and raised in the Zambezi Region, the 20-year-old started his music career during his primary school years and adopted the stage name,‘Attitude the Icon’.
Munzule was inspired by kwaito legend The Dogg although he decided to take a different music genre from his idol, and instead went for Hip Hop and RnB. The upcoming artist recently dropped his first single track ‘Who is that?’ which went viral on social media and received fair air play.
“I am bringing about a new sound, different messages from what is already out there. I do my thing differently and this appeals to both young and adult crowds. I am a boy with a different style and attitude hence the name Attitude the Icon.”
Last month, after suffering a tragedy, the young artist dropped another single track titled ‘Philosophy’ which he dedicated to his late relative. Philosophy has close to 2 000 plays on soundcloud.
“The death of my cousin had a strong impact on me and I had to recover from losing him. How ever, it also made me stronger and gave me the will power to continue in life and with my music.”
He is currently a second-year student pursuing a professional qualification in Communication at the National University of Science and Technology.
As the saying goes ‘one can’t serve two masters at the same time’, the music scene has seen some local artists struggling to balance between school and music, usually leading to one falling behind or ending all together. Fortunately, Munzule has learnt from other artists and is sticking to what he considers to be the greatest option.
“I take music to be a lifestyle I adopted but I will always push for school first. I have seen a need to have a better qualification in my life, hence I will always put my focus on my studies first,” he said.
During his first year at NUSTin 2016, Munzule dropped another hit track ‘Kwina bule’ in which he featured the local duo 1st Class Revelations. He also dropped a video for the hit track which later opened doors for him to appear on NBC’s music show ‘Whatagwan’ for an interview.
‘Kwinabule’ still receives airplay on Lozi service, Fresh FM and NUST FM radios while currently the video has 4 000 views on YouTube. Attitude the Icon is targeting a couple of local, regional and continental music awards, which according to him, will be a sign that his hard work has finally paid off.
“I want my music to grow to other parts of the world and not only in Namibia,” the young artist noted before adding: “When I complete my studies, I plan on working for NBC in their communication department.
