DUNDEE Precious Metals Tsumeb last Thursday donated N$95 816 to Ludwigshafen Primary School, through the Dundee Community Trust.
The money will help the school to purchase materials and supplies, such as an electronic school bell, fencing to extend the school yard, burglar bars for classroom windows, as well as furniture and computers.
In addition to materials and supplies for teachers and learners, the funds will also go towards creating a garden for the school.
Dundee Social Performance Senior Manager, Isai Nekundi, outlined that the company had a strong social and corporate responsibility focus, especially towards the communities it operates in.
“Dundee gives particular importance to education. School-going children are the key to shaping our country’s future,” he said.
The company has donated N$555 778.54 since the start of the year, and the money has gone towards education, social welfare and the environment.
According to Nekundi, donations have been used to train teachers, upgrade buildings, provide food for children, upgrade the Tsumeb District Hospital paediatric ward, local cleaning campaigns, as well as to cover general community expenses.
“Dundee gives particular importance to uplifting the standard of education facilities and services utilised by the Namibian youth, because we believe today’s school-going children will become the shapers of Tsumeb and Namibia’s future tomorrow,” he said.
Ludwigshafen Primary School Principal, Jannie Xamiseb, thanked the company for the donation.
“We are grateful that Dundee has a soft spot for schools and the education of the Namibian child,” said Xamiseb.
Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb has been promoting community development, which coincidently falls in line with the Harambee Prosperity Plan’s blueprint to eradicate poverty in Namibia by 2025.
Dundee says its recent donation is one of the company’s responses to President Hage Geingob’s call for teamwork and cooperation, between the public and private sectors, in order to reduce poverty and uplift the living conditions of the less fortunate.
