THE national under-20 rugby team gets preparation matches ahead of their Rugby Africa Barthes Under-20 Trophy in Madagascar later this month.
The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Elizma Theron said in a press release that it was decided to host warm-up matches for the national and the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias who are scheduled to participate in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge scheduled for 22nd April.
The warm-up matches lined-up at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium on 12th April, against invitational Namibian teams combined from players of all clubs in the NRU domestic league.
She said the coaches of these teams will be Johan Diergaardt and Shawn Kaizemi, with Flip Louw as the team manager and Gerald Loubser as the invitational coach of the under-23 team.
She said many of the invitational players will still want to prove that they deserve a spot in the national squads adding that the warm-up matches are expected to produce quite spectacular rugby.
The warm-up matches kick off is scheduled at 18H00 for the national under-20 rugby team while the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias encounter is at 19H45.
Theron said that as a gesture of good will to entice spectators on what to expect this coming season there will be no entrance fee for these warm-up matches.
