NAMIBIAN property and real estate developer, Peggie Jooste (PJ), has been awarded Gold Club Status by South Africa’s leading estate agency, Pam Golding Properties (PGP), which is an award given to satellite agencies of the group that have excelled.
Peggie is the wife of Public Enterprises Minister, Leon Jooste.
Formed in 1976, the Pam Golding group has since developed into a world-class global organisation, comprised of a number of operating companies that cover the full spectrum of the property market in sub-Saharan Africa and internationally.
Pam Golding Properties boasts a network of over 300 offices in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, Mauritius and Seychelles. The group also facilitates property sales and residency in Spain and Portugal, and property sales in the United States.
In light of the award, Confidente business reporter, Hilary Mare (HM) had a chat with Jooste about the status of the Namibian property market, as well as the Pam Golding Properties International’s Annual Gold Club Conference, slated for Swakopmund in May.
HM: Tell us more about your property firm and the award that you won recently.
PJ: I have been with Pam Golding Properties Namibia for five years. We offer a full spectrum of property services to our clients. You might have seen our shop in The Grove Mall of Namibia. Pam Golding Properties is recognised locally and internationally as the leading independent real estate group.
PGP holds annual, regional gala events where agents, who have performed very well, are awarded Gold Club status. We are home to some of the most successful agents in Africa, Southern Africa and the Indian Islands, which makes this, award a true achievement and something every PGP agent strives for.
HM: What would you say are your attributes that have gotten you to where you are today?
PJ: My commitment to the PGP brand and everything the brand has to offer. PGP is dedicated to empowering agents, through ongoing training, state-of-the-art systems and support, inspiring exciting and fulfilling careers that offer personal and financial rewards.
HM: What is your view of the Namibia property market?
PJ: Namibia has been within the top five countries in the world, in terms of property growth year-on-year, in the past five years. Although South Africa’s international credit rating has recently been downgraded to junk status, this did not harm the Namibian property market. Namibia is still sub-Saharan Africa’s only remaining investment-grade Eurobond issuer.
HM: What challenges does the industry face and how can these be averted?
PJ: We have experienced over the past year that the local market, in terms of property purchases, is slowing down. Two years ago, we had an overwhelming demand for property, but that has changed. We are now experiencing an overstock of properties in the market, with not enough willing buyers.
HM: What advice do you have for those hoping to join the property space?
PJ: This is an extremely exciting but tough industry to work in. You must have a genuine passion for people and understand the emotional journey people go through, when selling or buying their most valuable asset.
Commitment, tenacity, negotiation skills and the ability to think outside of the box, are crucial skills for any real estate agent.
HM: Tell us about the Pam Golding Properties International Annual Gold Club Conference.
PJ: Yes, at the end of May, we will be the host country for Pam Golding Properties International Annual Gold Club Conference. About 300 of the top agents in Southern Africa and the Indian Islands will arrive in Swakopmund for three days, to experience our country and what it has to offer. For some, it will be their very first time in Namibia. We are very excited to let them feel our country’s warmth and hospitality, and take back the possible investment opportunity to their prospective countries and buyers.
Pam Golding Properties is South Africa’s most successful real estate company, over the past 11 years. They have been awarded the Best Estate Agency in South Africa nine times since 2005, and Best Estate Agency in Africa five times since 2011 at the International Property Awards. In 2015, our Imagine Magazine received the Best External Publication award at the African Excellence Awards, along with earning Superbrands Status for four consecutive years.
The group received Gold at the Overseas Property Professional awards (OPP) for Best Real Estate Agency Africa for three consecutive years since 2012 and was awarded Best Global Estate Agency in 2012 and 2014.
