The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) and the Welwitchia University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will enable the two institutions to undertake planned collaborative enterprise research, development, innovation and training activities that are of mutual interest to both parties.
The NCRST, as part of its mandate to coordinate research, science, technology and innovation (RSTI), has over the last few years entered into various partnerships with other institutions of higher learning to ensure continued and sustained collaborative efforts in the funding and promotion of RSTI.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NCRST Acting Chief Executive Officer, Enid Keramen, said that the guiding principles for ensuring the success of the MoU will be in line with its priority areas, as outlined in the National Programme on Research, Science, Technology and Innovation (NPRSTI).
The MoU outlines various responsibilities of the two institutions under this agreement and it also calls for the establishment of a Joint Technical Committee (JTC), that amongst others, shall be responsible for establishing a three-year action plan, formulating the joint-collaboration programmes for the co-funded research and development grants, and as well as provide funding requirements and promote the exchange of information between the partner institutions.
“Through this MoU, the parties also intend to develop human capacity towards improved research and innovation, build capacity for postgraduate students in the area of research and innovation writing, as well jointly promote the research and development of health and welfare technology,” Keramen said.
The partnership will also benefit small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development, by ensuring adequate identification of incubation projects within the country.
The MoU came into effect last Thursday and will remain in force for a period of three years.
