Skorpion Zinc has announced that it is deeply saddened to confirm that an employee of Prinsloo Drilling, Stephanus Moore, has tragically passed away after being seriously injured in a borehole drilling accident at Skorpion Zinc Mine on Saturday, 19 August.
“The board and management of Skorpion Zinc and the greater Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) extend their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues. All VZI operations will observed a minute’s silence this morning, as we remember his life,” the miner said in a statement today.
Moore sustained a serious head injury while working on the installation of a new dewatering borehole casing.
He was initially assessed at the Sidadi Clinic in Rosh Pinah, and after it was confirmed that he needed expert trauma care, Moore was airlifted to a Cape Town hospital.
He remained in a critical condition, until passing away yesterday afternoon, surrounded by his loved ones.
Moore is survived by his parents, son, two sisters and a brother.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time, and we will continue to extend our support to them,” Skorpion Zinc added.
