… Says married women should pay her to keep their husbands happy

THE world of blessers and the young woman they shower with gifts, in exchange for company and sexual favours, may seem attractive from the outside, but there is a heavy price to pay, especially when unprotected sex becomes the only way to be blessed at a higher level.
This week, Confidente spoke to a university student, who entered the blessing game after friends told her that she is beautiful and could get men to pay for her drinks and other luxuries like airtime, expensive manicures and Brazilian hair.
She did the interview on the basis that she could remain anonymous.
Helena (not her real name), is a university student and says she gets ‘blessed’ for various reasons.
Her journey to be being a blessee started in the first year of her studies, when she was pressured by one of her friends to start using make-up, and to reveal more flesh, in order to look attractive, but for these things she needed money.
“I spent most of my savings on new outfits, hair and make-up, because not only did I have to look nice when I’m out partying, but also when I am on campus,” she said.
Helena said that her money soon ran out, but she still wanted to look pretty and ‘slay’ every day, because after a year of spending her own money, and not needing a man, she was broke and could not afford to maintain herself.
“My friend told me that I’m pretty and that at first I don’t need to sleep with anyone, but rather just keep the guy company, so that he pays for my drinks or takes me out to lunch.”
Helena confessed that after a while she started sleeping with older men, because they would pay for anything she asked for, including her smartphone, human hair and even an occasional trip to Swakopmund.
“I only did this because it was easier for me to get what I wanted, and also be in a relationship.”
Helena said that she comes from a poor background, and although that should not be an excuse, she says that having someone besides her parents, providing for her small luxuries, makes her life easier.
She also confessed to having more than one blesser, in case one cannot provide the things she wants. Sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) also play a role in the blessing game, as some men ask to have unprotected sex, and offer very expensive luxuries in exchange for this.
Helena admits that for her, being a blessee is just a modern way of dating and that if all else fails, and she does not succeed at university, then she will try and date what is known as the ‘Uncle Bae’ level blesser, who is even more generous and rewards sex with a credit card, expensive holidays and overseas shopping sprees.
Helena also confessed that it is not only unemployed poor young girls that are trading their bodies for material items.
She said that rich, employed and independent women, who crave hair, a better fashion wardrobe or a holiday fix, also exchange this for sexual favours.
Much has been said about receiving gifts in exchange for sexual intercourse, which is known as transactional sex, but in recent years this has become known has being blessed.
Although this phenomenon has been around for a long time, in one way or another, nowadays it has grown to more of a lifestyle for the people who are involved in it.
Blessings typically occurs when an older man or woman offers a luxury lifestyle, money or expensive gifts, such as cellphones, nails, clothes, jewellery, and even in some instances, pays for an apartment, for a younger man or woman, in exchange for a sexual relationship.
Blessers are also known to buy luxury cars or pay for expensive shopping sprees. However, the phenomenon has also been linked to HIV/Aids and the breaking up of families.
Helena was unapologetic about this, while saying wives should pay them to keep their men happy.
