… As Kauta warns clubs against boycotting kickoff
By John Tuerijama
The long-awaited kickoff of the Namibia Premier League (NPL) will steam ahead on Friday, despite boycott threats from some topflight clubs souring the countrywide celebrations.
It was confirmed on Wednesday that the NPL has finally been revived by a N$15 sponsorship by MTC, alongside a co-sponsorship of N$5 million from FNB Namibia.
The league has been in the doldrums for well over a year, following MTC withdrawing its sole sponsorship of N$45 million over three years, after the NPL failed to secure a co-sponsor at the time, which could foot the extra N$9 million per year to finance the league.
