Its finally all systems go for the Namibia Premier League (NPL), after the league’s Board of Governors (BoG) unanimously endorsed Friday, 20 October for the kickoff of the 2017/18 football season.
Orlando Pirates FC will clash with their old township foe, African Stars FC, season-opening encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Although the entire list of season fixtures has not yet been made public, football fans can look forward to a mouth-watering opening encounter between the two rivals, following the domestic elite football league being inactive for well over a year.
NPL Administrator, Joshua Hoebeb, told Confidente this week that the action will definitely kick off next Friday.
When asked about other scheduled matches, Hoebeb said, “Don’t worry about the other league matches; rather talk about the explosive match anticipated between Orlando Pirates and African Stars. Please get the fans to talk about that match.
“I am very optimistic and excited that the league is finally starting; the entire fixture list will be made public early next week, including the sponsorship announcement,” said the league administrator.
Hoebeb call on all hungry and thirsty football fans to rally behind their respective teams, as “a deadly volcano is set to erupt, come Friday”.
While MTC is said to have been confirmed as the main sponsor of the NPL, co-sponsors such as the Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) and First National Bank (FNB) Namibia are yet to put their signature commitments on the dotted line.
