NORTHERN community radio station, Shipi FM, will on 11 November host a Networking dinner at the Ondangwa Trade Fair Centre, in its bid to empower the northern community through progressive dialogue and networking.
The event, which will bring together political leaders, business people and individuals under one roof, will be hosted under the theme, ‘Achieve your Dreams With Shipi FM & sub-station themes ‘Promoting business, Job Creation and Fighting Poverty’.
Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa, is expected to deliver the keynote address.
Shipanga Holdings – Executive Director, Martin Kaali Shipanga, told Confidente this week that the event will host up to 600 people and is part of the station’s community building agenda.
“Having been in broadcasting for a year, we believe we can play a practical role in empowering the community, and we thought one of the things we can do is to provide a networking opportunity, in which we are looking at bringing our political leaders, who are ministers, governors and councillors, as well traditional leaders, and business people, who fall both under small and large enterprises together.
“We have also opened up the event to ordinary members of the public, who would want to take part in this opportunity, and so far we have reserved about 200 tickets for them to be catered for, hence we encourage them to get their tickets while it’s still early,” he said.
Shipanga went on to say that the price for the tickets have been highly subsidised, at N$250 for individuals and N$2 500 for tables of ten people.
“We have highly subsidised the cost of attendance and we are going to depend on sponsors to adequately host this event. It should also be emphasised that this event is a networking dinner, and contrary to what others may think, there is no fundraising that will take place at and with this event,” he explained.
With the station based in Ondangwa, Shipanga also noted that this could be the perfect opportunity for the town, which has been highly neglected when it comes to economic development, to change its fortunes.
Commenting on the preferred guest speaker, Shipanga said, “We intentionally picked Minister Shaningwa, because she is the minister at the centre of service delivery, and hence we believe there are a lot of developmental issues that she can address. We will have local business people that will also speak at the event and we are setting up a small entertainment program,” he added.
