… Fearless entrepreneur blazes new trails for women
WHILE growing up, Irene Simeon-Kurtz (ISK) never thought she would one day make a difference in her home town of Usakos.
Today, as the founder and owner of the Steelform Group, which includes Engen One Stop Usakos and the Northwest Service Station, she has created employment and brought various services for the town.
Irene recently won the coveted Business Owner of the Year 2017 title and has over the past few years received various other accolades for her work.
In an interview with Confidente’s Marianne Nghidengwa (MN), the mother of one talks about being a master of her time, innovation and creativity, as well as her efforts to mentor young women.
MN: Give us a snapshot of who you are.
ISK: I’m just Irene, an entrepreneur, a trader, a businesswoman, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a mother and a lover of many things. I like using the phrase: ‘I love, therefore I am.’ It’s about the passions I follow, like building my enterprises – Engen One Stop Usakos, the Northwest Service Station, Be Marketed and Steelform Investments. These are all companies that are 100 percent owned by me. I trade in fuel, lubricants, oil, fast food, groceries and corporate uniforms. I also do marketing and advertising consulting, and the list goes on. I am just someone following my various passions. I’m an early riser, always catching the sunrise of Usakos, as I head to the two filling stations, or wherever I am in the world.
