… Referee of the Year eyes football’s biggest stage
By John Tuerijama
JACKSON Pavaza, who this past Friday was named as the Referee of the Year at the MTC/ NSC Namibia Sports Awards for the second consecutive year, says his dream is to one day officiate at the World Cup finals.
The seasoned official, who kept his whistle warm officiating during African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, the Cosafa Castle Cup and other Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions this year, despite a dormant Namibia Premier League (NPL), said his passion for refereeing was awakened while playing street football as a boy.
“While growing up, we used to play street football, and at school, when there was disagreement, I always tried to be the middleman and intervene; so that’s how I developed my passion and love for refereeing,” he told Confidente.
