THE Ministry of Health and Social Services has opened up a multi-million dollar antiretroviral (ARV) procurement tender to local companies, after earlier this year announcing that it will be procuring the life-prolonging drugs directly from an international manufacturer.
In January this year, the ministry explained that the move to buy directly from the manufacturer was cost-effective, as it would cut out the so-called middlemen suppliers.
At the time, the international manufacturer charged N$36 105 020, while local suppliers charged N$55 568 853 for 11 types of ARV drugs.
