… NNFA president tackles misconceptions hampering sport code’s development
By John Tuerijama
NAMIBIA Federation for Freshwater Anglers (NFFA) President, Max Pieper, has rejected the misconception that the sport is only for rich men or just for white competitors.
In an interview with Confidente this week Pieper said that this perception is very wrong.
“Some facets of freshwater angling, specifically the bank-based sports, have a relatively low financial entrance threshold. One simply needs basic equipment and access to a dam or river, where one can practise the sport as a recreational pastime, a recreational sport or even as a competitive sport,” he said.
“On the competitive circuit, we have a few previously disadvantaged anglers and anglers from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), who actively participate in the sport. Freshwater angling is both a recreation, a means of subsistence and an active sport.
