…Geingob tells civil servants

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has revealed plans to reduce government’s bloated N$28.1 billion wage bill, while addressing the last Cabinet meeting of the year on Tuesday, including by strictly enforcing retirement at the age of 60.
Government is under pressure from its civil service wage bill, which scoops up 40 percent of revenues it receives annually.
“If you reach 60, it’s mandatory you leave. You are 60 yet you are fighting to stay on. Please help us to reduce the wage bill. The financial crisis we are going through has forced us to look at the waste in government,” Geingob said at the Cabinet briefing this week.
