… As young man follows in his father’s footsteps
By Elvis Muraranganda
MBAUNDJA Muhuka says the cutting, coding and programming of keys is a career he inherited from his father, which he also plans to pass on to his children.
The Muhuka family has been involved in the locksmith business for decades and Mbaundja now owns and runs Car Keys and Mobile Locksmith Namibia.
Commenting on how he became involved in the trade, Mbaundja said that his weekends and school holidays were dedicated to helping at the family business and learning the skills involved in the trade.
Originally from the Kunene region, Mbaundja operates from the Oshakati Open Market, while his 59-year-old father, Kavehindua, still runs his business a few metres away in the Oneshila location, which specialises in traditionally small keys for houses and cars. “After helping my father and learning from him, I decided to expand and include making car keys, remotes, programming and alarms for cars.
