THE Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry has introduced a capacity building strategy for resettlement and Affirmative Action Loan Scheme (AALS) farmers.
The strategy was launched last week by deputy minister Anna Shiweda.
Shiweda said that the formulation of the strategy was triggered by government’s realisation that the farmers were generally not yielding the desired outcomes.
According to Shiweda, the poor performance is mainly attributed to a lack of farming capacity of the beneficiaries, and the inadequate and unstructured support services offered by various stakeholders, as was reported by Agribank and the Ministry of Land Reform.
The strategy aims to provide targeted interventions to resettlement and AALS farmers, by providing an opportunity to all stakeholders to deliver coordinated activities to them, while also improving the ministry’s service delivery to the farmers.
