PATRICK Castelbranco, a 25-year-old German-born multi-disciplinary artist has come out of the shadows to claim a stake in Namibian entertainment industry.
Patrick is a model, dancer, rapper, producer and actor as well as a health and wellness freak.
He moved to Namibia in 2013 and studied graphics designing at the College of the Arts, but it was not until he caught the eye of local designer Lafika Heita, – who asked him to model for her collection at street cuisine in 2013 – that he kick-started his modeling career in Namibia.
Although he does not have the height or build of a runway model, it is still working out for him, as he was booked for the 2016 and 2017 Windhoek Fashion Week amongst other fashion shows.
Patrick’s dancing career began at the age of four after seeing Michael Jackson doing his signature dance move, the moon walk on television which further inspired him to entertain, not only his family but everyone who he came across back in Germany.
However, in Namibia, he started teaching hip-hop dancing including crump and break dancing at the well-known Equipped Dance Academy.
“I taught the dancers at Equipped, but after seeing that they did not incorporate any of my dance moves in their routines, I decided to stop, in fear that I might be wasting my time,” Patrick told Confidente.
The determined Patrick noted although the local arts and culture industry in Namibia is different from that in Germany, he is convinced that he will become a household name in Namibia while tackling the German market.
“I like staying in Namibia. It is very laid back and chilled, compared to the life back in Germany.”
However, back in Germany his acting skills were lauded after he acted in a short dance film titled ‘Der rasendeTrommler’ which is about a troubled teenager who makes it through his trials and tribulations using dance as a medium of expression. The short film was screened at the Berlin Movie Week, and this remains one of his greatest acting experiences.
Furthermore, Patrick was also casted for Dillish Mathews latest music video, which is yet to be released titled ‘Lights’.
Patrick says because he does more than one discipline, he is versatile and simply cannot crack under pressure. His ventures this year are still being kept secret by his management team, but one venture he is taking to heart this year, will be the launch of his own clothing designing company called Aesthetic Empire, which will have street urban lifestyle clothing for the health enthusiast or anybody who wants to look as cool as another person in the gym. 2018 may be Patrick’s year, but we will keep our eyes open to see what he can offer.
