RE C E N T L Y formed dynamic damara punch duo, Ruben ‘Ruby’ Haoseb and Drigo ‘Riio’ Uiseb have released a song titled !Haos Xun, which is loosely translated to English as ‘Cultural things’.
The duo also known in the local music circles as Ruby and Riio said the song was also going to be the title of their debut album that set to be released soon after the Namibian Annual Music Awards, this year.
According to Riio, the duo intent to take the once very popular damara punch sound to an even greater level.
The 21 year old is adamant that they will be forces to be reckoned with in the local music industry in the near future.
“We simply just want to embrace and bring back the Ma/Gaisa sound and make it popular again. We want to start off with purely Damara Punch music for our first album and then we move on to Afro pop and house music,” he said.
The Damara Punch genre has in the past vibrated with the masses. The likes of Phura, Ou Stakes, Raphael and Pele have been celebrated, but soon fell off the bandwagon, which had negatively impacted on the genre over the past few years.
“Many have tried to rejuvenate the genre, but few have remained and we are going to bring the punch back” said Riio. According to him, they plan on bringing the electrifying Damara punch dance moves back, adding that last year was a fairly good year for the duo as they got the opportunity to perform at Young-T’s album launch as well as at an NBC event.
The duo remain adamant and confident that their touch with traditional Ma/Gaisa sounds and modern house beats would propel them to the next level.
