…As Mannetti rates him as most consistent player at CHAN
By john Tuerijama
BRAVE Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti has labelled attacking midfielder, Absalom Imbondi, as Namibia’s most consistent player at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals that were held in Morocco earlier this year.
Imbondi won the heart of many local football lovers during the Championship, as he featured in all matches, cementing his place in the national senior team.
Affectionately known as Touchies, Imbodi scored Namibia’s only goal against Zambia in their final match of the group stages, in which he brilliantly scored a well-taken set-piece in the 12th minute of the game, which he vividly celebrated with teammates and assistant coach Ronny Kanelelo.
“Imbodi was one of the consistent players who improved tremendously in each game,” Mannetti said of his talisman.
In an interview with Confidente this week, Imbodi, spoke about his perfect set-piece that he took against Zambia highlighting that he has been working hard to perfect his skill.
“I have worked very hard with my coach Ronny Kanalelo on perfecting my set-pieces, and thanks to Kanalelo it paid off.”
“It felt very good and thought about it a lot as I worked hard (sic). I had to perfect that and when I scored, it brought a feeling of fulfilment and joy. It is really an honour to play for your country and it was the first time scoring in a continental competition which I cannot compare to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers that I have featured in,” he stressed.
