…After injuring his left elbow while in South Africa

NAMIBIAN sprint sensation, Ernst Narib had his dream of competing for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April dashed after he sustained an elbow injury while training at the high Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa.
Narib told this publication this week that he and fellow athletes Roger Haitengi and Gerhardus Maritz were based in South Africa to ensure qualification for this year’s Commonwealth Games.
However, the sprinter is currently nursing his elbow injury with physio-therapist, Xandra Smith who attended to him and unfortunately ruled him out of last weekend’s Athletic South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix held in Johannsburg.
Triple jumper and 400m runner, Maritz failed to make the qualification for the Commonwealth Games after clocking 50.39 seconds finishing fifth. Narib said that it is unfortunate that he did not make the national team but admitted that the intense training in Pretoria were worthwhile as he trained with South Africa’s very best in the likes of Clarence Munyai and former 200m world record holder Ainaso Jobodwana.
