MERCEDES-AMG has given its C63 and C63 S a facelift, aimed mostly at differentiating them even more clearly from the standard C-Class models.
While their four-litre, biturbo V8 petrol engines and Speedshift MCT 9G drivetrain are unchanged at 350kW and 375kW respectively, the drive modes have been redefined so that the comfort mode is even more street-orientated while a new ‘Master’ mode lets expert drivers explore the car’s limits on track days.
Both versions get a new AMG-specific grille with chromed vertical louvres, much like that of the AMG GT, redesigned transverse fins in the outer air intakes, and an A-wing front apron that makes the front of the car look even wider than it really is.
The rear end gets redesigned twin tailpipe trims in high-gloss chrome and a more angular diffuser, and the S also gets a new diffuser board.
The big deal inside is a new generation of flat-bottomed AMG sports steering wheels with heavily contoured rims, trimmed in perforated nappa leather, with the options of piano black or carbon-fibre trim.
New touch-control buttons can be used to access the functions of the instrument cluster and multimedia system, using horizontal and vertical swiping movements of the finger; a round controller with an integral display on the right is an option, plus two vertical colour display buttons on the left New trim options include two-tone grey and black leather with yellow contrasting topstitching, trim elements in dark grey-stained open-pore oak or walnut, a combination of brushed aluminium and black-stained open-pore ash on the centre console, AMG trim in carbon fibre light longitudinal-grain aluminium, or matt silver fibreglass.
The facelifted Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S, in sedan, coupé and convertible formats, will be released in South Africa during the second half of 2018 – prices, as usual, when they get here
