BOXING lovers are in for a treat when Namibian pugilist Willbeforce Shihepo, takes on Malawian-born Mussa Ajibu in the non-title light heavyweight bout scheduled for Saturday at the Windhoek Show Grounds.
Salute Boxing Academy Spokesperson, Armas Shivute told Confidente this week that Shihepo has been hard at work in the gym, preparing for the upcoming fight.
Affectionately known as ‘Black Mamba’, Shihepo last fought against Anos Temfuma in 2017 and lost by an unanimous decision, and went on losing to Callum Johnson in 2016, in the Commonwealth Games (British Empire) light heavyweight title by a knockout.
Shivute explained that the boxer is very hungry for some serious boxing action this coming weekend, and has since then focused on his training with no distraction.
“He is extremely focused and all that he wants is a sweet victory over the Malawian opponent.” World Boxing Federation (WBF) Africa super welterweight reigning champion, Vakufilapo ‘Cowboy’ Wilhelm is also expected to have an entertaining fight when he defends his title against South African-born Roarke Knapp.
Both boxers professional’s record stands at six fights and six wins a piece while veteran boxer, Shihepo’s record is an impressive 33 fights, 24 wins and nine losses compared to his opponent whose record stands at 43 fights, 28 wins, ten losses and five draws.
WBF Africa featherweight title holder Nathanael ‘Natty’ Kakololo will defend his belt against yet another Malawian opponent Israel Kammwamba.
Kakololo’s record stands at eight fights, six wins, one loss and one draw while Kammwamba’s professional record is 12 fights, nine wins, two losses and one draw.
Shivute said that the boxing bonanza has now been rescheduled to 16h00, and not 18h00 as earlier indicated.
“The reason why we rescheduled is because we had to accommodate a number of our young and upcoming boxers. We thought it is proper to expose some of our boxers at this level so that they eventually step into the foot-prints of their more senior boxers.”
“They need a chance to be exposed as our developmental program boasts a number of potential boxers who steadily needs to be introduced into the actual program.”
